Ferdinand Omanyala failed to make it to the World Championships Oregon 100Metres final after finishing fifth in his semifinal early Sunday morning. The athlete clocked 10.14 seconds in the semis, slower than his Heat 7 on Saturday morning when he clocked 10.10seconds to finish third. Fred Kerley won the race with a time frame of 9.86 seconds followed by Marvin Bracy and then Trayvon Bromell both finishing within 9.88 seconds.
Ferdinand Omanyala, the fastest man in Africa, now has his attention on the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham England, after his aim at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States, proved impossible. Omanyala on his Twitter account said he will only look at the positive side of things.
“Every challenge you face today makes you stronger tomorrow. The challenge of life is intended to make you better, not bitter. Persistence and resilience only come from having been given the chance to work through difficult problems. No matter how much falls on us, we keep moving” he posted”.
A delayed visa forced Omanyala to leave the country Thursday night for the championships; he landed in Oregon less than three hours before his race. despite the delay, he still managed to overcome the first hurdle as he crossed the line in third place in his heat to automatically qualify for the semifinal race.
Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs, who was set to race against Omanyala in the third heat, withdrew from the 100m semi-finals with a thigh injury hours before the showdown. The Olympic champion, who became the first men’s 100m champion in the post-Usain Bolt era, issued a statement on Twitter to inform fans that he will not be competing out of concern for suffering a serious injury.
