Faith Kipyegon, the world champion in the 1,500-meter race, won Kenya her first gold medal in this year’s championship. according to her, she had pressure to deliver a gold medal in the ongoing World Athletics Championship in Oregon. Faith came first in the race finishing at a time frame of 3:52.96. She was followed by Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia 3:54.52, and Laura Muir of Great Britain 3:55.28.

“I knew Gudaf will want to lead from the start because she is not so good when it comes to the finishing power so if he got in front I knew very well that I can’t afford to let her take a huge lead so I decided to be neck to neck with her and I thank God I reclaimed the gold medal” part of the statement from her read.

She added “I knew Kenyans had a lot of expectation in me so there is no way I could have let them down because they have always been supportive to me,” she said, adding, “I must admit the pressure was huge for me to deliver.”

Kipyegon became the first woman in history to win four medals at the competition having won silvers in 2015 and 2019 and gold in 2017 and 2022. The runner dedicates her win to her family and daughter just as she did during the Olympics Games in Tokyo Japan.

“My family has always been supportive to me in my entire career. Their support gives me the strength to give my all when I get to the track so just like last year I dedicate the gold medal to my daughter,” she stated”.

Kenya now has a total of six medals – one Gold, three Silver and two Bronze. According to Faith, the race was tough which started with a very fast pace, but the team she trains with helped her keep up with the others.
