There are three Pathways and each pathway has its own subjects. The pathway includes:

  1. Social Sciences
  2. Arts and Sports Science
  3. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Social Science pathway

Learners have to choose 3 or a maximum of 5 subjects. The subjects are grouped into 3 levels: Humanities, Languages and Business Studies.

Humanities include:

  • History and Citizenship
  • Geography
  • Christian Religious Education
  • Islamic Religious Education
  • Hindu Religious Education
  • Business Studies
  • Mathematics

Languages consist of:

  • Arabic
  • French
  • German
  • Mandarin
  • English Language
  • Literature in English
  • Lugha ya Kiswahili
  • Fasihi ya Kiswahili
  • Kenyan Sign Language
  • Indigenous Languages
  • Business studies is not grouped.

Art and Sport Science Pathway

This pathway has the main subjects that students must do and also optional subjects. Legal and Ethical issues in Arts and communication skills are arts main subjects while, Human Physiology, Anatomy and Nutrition and sports Ethics are sports science main subjects.

Arts Optional Subjects include:

  • Performing arts
  • Music
  • Fine Art
  • Theatre and Elocution
  • Applied Art
  • Time Based Media
  • Dance
  • Crafts

Sports Science Optional Subject:

  • Outdoor Pursuits
  • Martial Arts
  • Water Sports
  • Athletics
  • Boxing
  • Indoor Games
  • Gymnastics
  • Advanced Physical Education

Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics pathway

This pathway comprises pure science, Applied science, Technical and engineering and a career in technology studies. Just like art and sport science pathway this pathway also have the main subjects and optional subject across each unit.

Applied science

Applied sciences’ main subjects are community service learning, physical education and ICT. The optional subjects where learners are required to choose one subject include:-

  • Agriculture
  • Computer Science
  • Foods and Nutrition
  • Home Management

Pure science

Pure science’s main subjects include Community Service Learning, Physical Education and information communication technology(ICT).

For the optional subjects learners are supposed to choose 3 to 4 subjects. the subjects are:

  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Physics
  • Mathematics

Technical and engineering

Technical and engineering courses consist of more main subjects. These subjects include Mathematics, ICT, Physical Education, Community Service Learning, Chemistry or Biological Sciences and Physics or Biology or Physical Sciences.

For the optional subjects students are supposed to choose only one unit, the subjects include:

  • Aviation Technology
  • Wood Technology
  • Electrical Technology
  • Geosciences Technology
  • Electronics Technology
  • Manufacturing Technology
  • Mechatronic
  • Clothing Technology
  • Construction Technology
  • Media Technology
  • Metal Technology
  • Power Mechanics
  • Marine and fisheries Technology

Career in Technology Studies

A career in technology studies has three main subjects which are: ICT, Physical Education, and Community Service Learning. In this unit learners should select one optional subject, this subject includes:

  • Welding and Fabrication
  • Tourism and Travel
  • Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
  • Garment Making and Interior Design
  • Animal Keeping
  • Building Construction
  • Leather Work
  • Building Construction
  • Culinary Arts
  • Hair Dressing and Beauty Therapy
  • Plumbing and Ceramics
  • Graphic Designing and Animation
  • Food and Beverage
  • Motor Vehicle Mechanics
  • Carpentry and Joinery-
  • Fire Fighting

  • Electricity
  • Land Surveying
